China is not doing enough to prevent the spread of AIDS and has been slow in fulfilling its 2003 pledge to provide antiretroviral treatment to all who need it, according to a UN report cited by the Standard of Hong Kong. Researchers said that HIV cases have been found in all 31 provinces, with Yunnan and Henan most affected. They warned that the combination of prostitution and use of needles by illegal drug users "is likely to become the main driver of China's epidemic". China estimates the figure for HIV infections is 840,000, including 80,000 with full-blown AIDS.
