China has made impressive commitment in monitoring the Songhua River pollution in a regular and systematic way and to sharing results and other information with neighboring Russia and the UN, a United Nations Environment Program report said. But the UN report also said that during the initial phase after the petrochemical explosion, the government’s "communication and information sharing with the general public was not adequate." State media reported that Cuban President Fidel Castro thanked China for 12 new locomotives and 80 buses sold to the country as part of a US$100 million, 1,000-bus deal.
