A United Nations official warned China to act immediately against HIV/AIDS following a meeting in Beijing with Vice-Premier Wu Yi. The UN official said that the number of new HIV/AIDS cases in China doubled last year and that China must act now to prevent an epidemic in its urban population. During the meeting, Wu outlined China's anti-HIV/AIDS efforts and the challenges it faces. She said China would enhance international cooperation on the prevention and treatment of the virus.
