China Unicom (CHU.NYSE, 0762.HK) has confirmed that it is in talks with Apple (AAPL.NASDAQ) over bringing the company’s iPad tablet and iPhone 4 mobile phone to China, the Financial Times reported. Unicom said that it hoped to sell the iPhone 4 in China featuring both the WiFi wireless internet standard and 3G internet access; Chinese government regulations forced Unicom to offer its initial iPhones without WiFi. Dominant wireless carrier China Mobile (CHL.NYSE, 0941.HK) is also said to be interested in the iPhone and iPad. Apple has sold more than 3 million iPads in the first three months since the device was introduced. While not officially available, iPads can be bought easily in China on the gray market.
