China Unicom is preparing to expand into international markets, reported China Daily. “Acquisitions with overseas telecoms carriers will enable China Unicom to have precious footholds in the international telecoms market,” company president Wang Jianzhou was quoted as saying. The company has been in talks with foreign operators about forming equity or technological partnerships.
Meanwhile, China Unicom Group has been granted permission to list A-shares. An IPO is expected later this year, which could raise up to Yn12.5bn, according to analysts. Its subsidiary China Unicom Ltd is already listed in Hong Kong and New York.
