China has received its first oil imports from the US since 2005, the South China Morning Post reported. The US Energy Information Administration (EIA) says the US is exporting 9,000 barrels of crude per day to China – the highest in 13 years. In late 2012, China overtook the US as the world’s biggest importer of oil: US oil imports fell to 5.98 million barrels per day while China’s net oil imports rose to 6.12 million barrels per day. Analysts said that China’s increasing reliance on offshore energy is one of the main drivers behind the rapid modernization of its navy.
