US-China carbon pacts promising, but differences remain

The US and China have signed eight agreements to increase cooperation between the two nations in reducing carbon emissions, Reuters reported. The pacts, signed on Tuesday, include deals between companies and research bodies to share clean coal power generation technology and industrial ultra-cleaning technology. However, the talks also underscored differences between the two nations on how the burden of greenhouse gas reduction should be divided between developed and developing nations. The US delegation is in China for the sixth round of the US-China Strategic and Economic Dialogue, which are high-level meetings on cooperation in areas from security to agriculture.
