US, China reach deal on imports of American apples

American and Chinese officials have reached a deal allowing for the import and sale on the mainland of all types of apples grown in the US for the first time, The Associated Press reported, citing the Washington Apple Commission, which represents the growers of the US’s largest apple crop. China bought US$55 million worth of Washington Red Delicious and Golden Delicious apples in the 2010-11 marketing year. China first ended imports of American apples in 2012 due to concerns over a fungus.
