US concerned over Huawei deal in South Korea

The Obama administration has privately raised concerns about South Korea’s plan to let Chinese telecommunications giant Huawei develop its national wireless network, The Wall Street Journal reported, citing US officials. Washington believes the company’s equipment could be used for spying on communications among its partners. Last year, Australia blocked Huawei from obtaining contracts linked to its national broadband network. US concerns have been kept private due to the sensitivity surrounding the potential impact on commercial decisions of its allies.
