Further executive action could be taken by the White House to limit Chinese telecoms business in the US, sources told the Wall Street Journal, once again citing concerns for national security.
Two likely victims of new restrictions are Huawei and ZTE, who have both been victims of recent moves by the US government.
The new measures, which could be imposed as an executive order in the next few weeks, could put a stop to sales of phones made by the two companies on US military bases around the world, with security officials claiming that telecoms could act as means of espionage for Chinese forces.
Another possible route would be further restrictions on US firms’ ability to do business with the Chinese telecoms companies.
