US Government to allow Nvidia H200 chip export to China

The US government will allow Nvidia to export its H200 artificial intelligence chips to China, reports Reuters. President Donald Trump also said there would be a 25% fee for each chip, on top of the 15% already proposed in August.

The decision follows a US debate about whether Nvidia and rivals would maintain their global lead in AI chips by selling to China or withholding chips. Beijing has told companies not to use US technology, however, which leaves it unclear whether Trump’s decision would lead to new sales.

Trump did not say how many H200 chips would be authorized for shipment or what conditions might apply, only that exports would occur “under conditions that allow for continued strong National Security.”
