The former managing director of US hedge fund Och-Ziff Capital Management is establishing a new private equity fund to pursue strategic investments in China, the Wall Street Journal reported. Frank Yu is reportedly hoping to raise as much as US$500 million for the fund, which is expected to invest in a variety of different sectors, the paper said, citing sources familiar with the situation. Yu’s new private equity firm, Themes Investment Partners, has completed its first round of fund-raising, the sources said. Earlier this week, US private equity firm Carlyle and Shanghai-based Fosun Group announced they would partner on a US$100 million renminbi-denominated private equity fund.
