US internet firms push fight against censorship

Prominent US technology companies have asked Washington to put censorship issues on its China agenda, AP reported. Companies like Google and Yahoo said the government should treat censorship as a trade barrier that should be addressed in bilateral free trade agreements. They were speaking at a State Department-sponsored conference on internet freedom. Last year, Google and Yahoo were among four top technology companies lambasted at a House of Representatives hearing for activities in China; lawmakers accused them of pursuing profits at the cost of social responsibility.
