United States Navy Admiral Harry Harris Jr. on Wednesday proposed reviving an informal naval coalition with Japan, Australia and India in face of China’s ongoing maritime expansion, The New York Times reported. The overture from Harris, also the chief of the US Pacific Command, is the latest attempt by the US to woo India away from its longtime reticence to join such strategic alliances. American officials have also claimed that the US is close to concluding a logistics agreement with India allowing the two countries’ militaries to more easily use one another’s resources for repairs and refueling.
