US not threatened by China in Africa

President Barack Obama said the US does not see its role in Africa being threatened by China’s high levels of investment in the continent, Reuters reported. “I don’t feel threatened by it. I feel it’s a good thing,” Obama said on Saturday during his stop in South Africa, the second leg of his Africa tour. Obama said all investment, including that from China, is beneficial to Africa. Chinese President Xi Jinping’s tour of the continent earlier this year highlighted the potential competition in Africa between the countries. State-run Xinhua News Agency ran a story seeking to dispel this reading of events.
