A bipartisan group of US lawmakers is appealing to Google to cool its collaborative work with Chinese telecoms giant Huawei, which has been targeted by the house as a national security threat due to its alleged links with the nation’s government.
According to Reuters, the politicians directed a letter to Google’s Chief Executive Sundar Pichai, referencing the tech company’s recent decision to cut back on its partnership with the US Defense Department.
“While we regret that Google did not want to continue a long and fruitful tradition of collaboration between the military and technology companies, we are even more disappointed that Google apparently is more willing to support the Chinese Communist Party that the US military,” the letter read.
A Google spokesperson said in an email statement that Huawei will not have any access to the company’s data and “privacy and security protections” will be included in any arrangements between the two parties.
