US to monitor textiles imports

Following a 29% gain in US imports of Chinese textiles and apparel in January after the global quota ended, the Bush Administration said it would begin monitoring textile imports, responding to pressure from lawmakers and industry groups. Starting April, the US will release all textile import data more than a month earlier than usual as it ponders re-imposing textile import quotas. China said its increased shipments are natural following the quotas' end.
