German car marker Volkswagen has signed an agreement with its Chinese partner, Shanghai Automotive Industry Corp, extending their joint venture for 20 years from the original expiry date of 2009, AFX news agency reported.
China Daily reported that Volkswagen is likely to move its office for Asia-Pacific operations to Beijing from Wolfsburg in Germany. The group’s Asia-Pacific president, Bernd Leissner, moved his personal office to Beijing last month.
In a separate development,Volkswagen is building a comprehensive database of buyers, potential buyers and car dealers in a bid to strengthen sales and promote consumer loyalty, said Media. The project is a partnership with Grey Relationship Marketing and it will allow Volkswagen to distribute information and training materials via an extranet link and to measure the performance of different dealers. It also plans to contact customers via email, so as to gauge satisfaction levels and to remind them when their vehicles are due for a service.
