Volkswagen AG's main Chinese joint venture, First Automotive Works (FAW) in Shanghai, saw August sales fall 7.1%, compared to July, to 26,034 units, VW reported. But sales at its JV in Changchun, in northeast China climbed 5.2%, to 23,536, for the period. Reuters reported that VW's unusually early announcement was occasioned by a leak from a company official suggesting sales had dropped by 19%. While sales growth declines have become an industry norm, August represented an actual drop in sales for VW.
