Walmart opens 63rd direct farm project

Walmart China has opened its first Direct Farm project in Fengxian district, Shanghai, making it the 63rd Walmart Direct Farm project in China. The farm covers about 1,200 acre and the project is Walmart’s first direct farm base in Shanghai.

Walmart and Jingrui Agriculture Development organized technicians to transfer knowledge to local farmers so that farmers could better adapt to market conditions. Farmers are encouraged them to choose standardized and scaled production methods, and were provided instructions on ways to preserve the environment in production activities by way of a sustainable agriculture program.

The project has several benefits. One is producing fresh quality products at low prices. The estimate is that sales revenue will be about RMB12.75 million (US$1.9 million) and will benefit 12,000 farmers.

English.EastDay.com reports Walmart’s Direct Farm Project in Shanghai has opened an express line for vegetables produced in the farm to enter Walmart stores in the Yangtze River Delta.
