Warner Brothers signed a framework agreement with Guangzhou Performance to build between eight and 10 cinemas in southern China over the next few years.
Warner Brothers was expected to invest between RMB 20-30 million in each cinema and would probably retain a controlling stake in the ventures, Guangdong Performance said.
The deal follows one in October under which Shanghai Film Group said it and Warner Brothers would build 10 cinemas in China.
China issued new rules in December allowing foreign investors to hold up to a 75% stake in cinemas in seven of China's largest cities from January 1.
