Warner Home Video will sell low-priced DVDs in China of Transformers and Shrek the Third as it looks for ways to combat widespread movie piracy, AFP reported. The DVDs, priced RMB22 (US$2.90) each, will be distributed in over 50 major Chinese cities starting this month. Warner is already selling low-cost DVDs of movies made by Universal Pictures in China, and has struck agreements with Paramount and Dreamworks Animation to incorporate these two new movies into its program. "By providing a wide selection of high-quality, competitively priced DVDs, we will be offering consumers a more attractive alternative to lower-quality pirated products," said Mark Horak, executive vice president of Warner Home Video. Pirated DVDs sell for as little as RMB7 (US$1) in China but are often defective.
