A group of policymakers from across the aisle co-signed a letter to block Huawei from supplying its solar energy generators to the US grid, the SCMP reports, broadening the government’s skepticism towards the tech firm from telecommunications.
The 11 lawmakers appealed to the Department of Homeland Security and the Energy Department to keep Huawei from selling its recently-developed new generation of low-cost solar inverters, which turn the energy produced by panels into a form suitable for home use, in the US.
“Both large-scale photovoltaic systems and those used by homeowners, school districts and businesses are equally vulnerable to cyber attacks. Our federal government should consider a ban on the use of Huawei inverters in the United States,” the politicians wrote.
