Premier Wen Jiabao called on cadres from China's booming Yangtze River Delta region to make sacrifices for the smooth development of the national economy. Wen spoke with officials from Shanghai municipality and Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces, urging them to actively implement measures to cool overinvestment in sectors including steel and property. Wen emphasized that provincial leaders were required to heed Beijing's directives and that paying lip service was not an option.
