Beijing will ensure the free flow of financial and economic information despite new rules that constrict foreign news agencies, Premier Wen Jiabao told the China Britain Business Council. "We will strive to ensure that the flow of financial and economic information will not meet any obstruction. And I trust that foreign media organizations and journalists will comply with the law," he said. The South China Morning Post quoted the speech, delivered Wednesday after Wen met British Prime Minister Tony Blair. Beijing announced new media rules on Sunday that give Xinhua News Agency the power to censor all information distributed on the mainland by foreign news agencies. With the exception of financial news, foreign media companies cannot sell services directly to mainland outlet but have to use a Xinhua-appointed agent.
