Premier Wen Jiabao said China will move forward on sustainable economic growth, currency reform and democracy, but this will take place gradually at a pace set by Beijing, Reuters reported. In a wide-ranging interview with foreign media, the premier also flexed some diplomatic muscle by urging Iran to listen to international concerns about its weapons program. "We need peace, we need friends and we need time," Wen said. The premier also toed a line set earlier this year, promising no surprises in currency policy. "We will continue to deepen reforms of the renminbi exchange rate mechanism," he said. Wen also blamed illegal landgrabs and forced resettlements, often by corrupt officials, for causing social unrest.
