Premier Wen Jiabao met with AIDS patients in a Beijing hospital to mark World AIDS day. It is the first publicly documented instance in which a top-ranking Chinese official has visited with Chinese AIDS patients.
The visit underscores the recent increase in attention paid to HIV/AIDS by the Chinese government. China is estimated to have 840,000 people infected with HIV/AIDS.
