Wen visits mine disaster scene

Visiting the scene of one of China's deadliest and most recent coal mining accidents, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao called for an intensified safety program in Chinese mines state media reported. According to official media, Wen spent the New Year weekend visiting the Chenjiashan mine in northern Shaanxi province, meeting with miners and relatives of some of the 166 men killed in the a series of explosions at the mine last November. During the visit Wen also traveled some 1,300 meters underground, Xinhua reported, meeting with miners at work and promising to step up government efforts to improve safety.
