White House National Security Adviser Thomas Donilon urged China on Monday to take “serious steps” to stop the hacking of US companies, as the Obama Administration tries to increase pressure on Beijing following high-profile attacks, Financial Times reported. Donlion said the issue was becoming a challenge to the Sino-US economic relationship and urged Beijing to start negotiating international rules for cyberspace. US politicians are considering levying sanctions on companies and denying visas to individuals linked to hacking. China’s foreign minister, Yang Jiechi, rejected allegations that the military is involved in hacking, while calling for more international “rules and co-operation.”
