Vice Premier Wu Yi is to head a top-level leadership group on food and product safety, the Financial Times reported. The recent concerns over China-made food and product safety will also be a top agenda of Wu when she meets with US officials in Beijing this November in continuation of the two countries' twice-yearly bilateral trade talks. The taskforce may be the final posting for Wu, who at 69 is near the unofficial age of retirement for Chinese officials. Claims of hazardous levels of lead in China-manufactured toys for Mattel and babies' bibs for Toys R Us have prompted recalls in recent weeks. So far, the health scares have not slowed the country's exports.
