Wuhan Iron and Steel has new ore carrier

Wuhan Iron and Steel Corp recently commissioned a new ore carrier named China Shipping Hope. That carrier has a planned iron ore capacity of 230,000 tons.

The new vessel, built by state-owned China Shipping Co, is the third VLOC (very large ore carrier) for the steel producer. Wuhan Steel said it may build more ore carriers for the transport of iron ore produced by its overseas subsidiaries.

Steel Guru reports that Wuhan Steel’s current annual iron ore consumption is nearly 30 million tons, with 80% of that imported. About 17 million tons of the ore imports are delivered via Beichang port in Ningbo city, Zhejiang province.
