Xi says China has "no private interest" in Ukraine

China has refused to take sides on Russia’s annexation of Crimea, The Wall Street Journal reported, citing comments by Chinese President Xi Jinping. Speaking in Berlin on Friday during his first European tour, Xi said China had “no private interest in the Ukraine question,” dashing hopes in the West that Beijing could turn more critical of its Russian ally. “All involved parties should continue to aim for a political and diplomatic solution of the conflict,” Xi told reporters at a joint press briefing with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, adding that the Ukraine situation was “extremely complex.”
