Xian, capital of Shaanxi province, has announced a five-year plan to become China’s largest software processing centre, Xinhua reported. The director of Xian Software Park, Mao Lei, told the news agency that the centre would employ 100,000 software engineers and generate annual sales of Yn20bn. The park currently has more than 30 software enterprises that co-operate with counterparts in Taiwan and Japan in software development.
Xian is already known as a technologyintensive city, with 36 universities, three software colleges and 400 software enterprises with a workforce of 300,000. Last year these enterprises generated Yn2.7bn in gross domestic product.
