Xiaomi phone sales more than double in 2013

Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi sold nearly 19 million phones in 2013, more than doubling sales from the year before, The Wall Street Journal reported. Chairman and Chief Executive Lei Jun, on Thursday said on his verified Sina Weibo microblog account that the startup sold 18.7 million phones last year. He said that the company posted sales of $5.22 billion (31.6 billion yuan) last year, which was more than double on 2012’s figure. Lei said the company hopes to sell at least 40 million phones for 2014, however the unlisted firm does not release official data on its sales.
