China’s second-largest media conglomerate, Shanghai Media Group (SMG), has established a new media partnership with Xinhua News Agency.
Under the agreement, Xinhua will provide self-produced content to SMG’s mobile TV and internet protocol television (IPTV) operation subsidiaries Shanghai Dragon New Media and BesTV.
Xinhua seriously added television program production to its newsgathering activities recently and aims to broadcast eight hours of Chinese and three hours of English news programming daily by the end of 2009, with coverage extending to 16 hours of Chinese and six hours of English news programming daily by the end of 2010.
