Xinjiang Uighur Autonomous Region recorded US$4.8 billion in foreign trade in 2003, a 77.3 percent year-on-year increase.
Xinjiang's foreign trade grew the fastest out of all Chinese administrative regions in 2003. Exports from Xinjiang, located in China's northwest, grew more than 90 percent from the previous year to US$2.5 billion.
