Yahoo in talks to buy Alibaba.com stakes

Yahoo Inc, which claims to have the world's largest Internet search engine, is in talks to buy a stake in Chinese electronic-commerce company Alibaba.com Corp, the Asian Wall Street Journal reported, citing a person familiar with the talks. Closely-held Alibaba is also talking to other companies about a possible investment. The companies declined to comment. Forbes earlier reported that Yahoo was negotiating a 35% stake worth US$1bn and could fold some of its existing China operations into Alibaba. Alibaba operates Web sites to help small and midsize merchants connect with wholesalers, manufacturers and other sellers in China.
