US fast-food conglomerate Yum Brands (YUM.NYSE, TGR.FRA) plans to stop sourcing chicken from suppliers that work with small Chinese farms, The Wall Street Journal reported. The move is part of a bid by Yum to restore consumer confidence following a slew of negative publicity late last year over food quality. A central issue with China’s meat industry is that players source from small farms which are not tightly regulated and which are susceptible to quality risks, said Sam Su, the chairman and chief executive of the US firm’s China branch. The company is working with international poultry firms to help them enter the China market.
