A Chinese subsidiary of Japan’s Yusen Air & Sea Service opened a bonded warehouse at Pudong International Airport in Shanghai, China to improve local logistics services, the company said. The new facility at Pudong takes over operations from local agents.
According to YAS, the core logistics unit of Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha (NYK Line), Japan’s largest shipping firm by sales, the 800-square-meter bonded warehouse of Yusen Shenda Air & Sea Service (Shanghai) Ltd. opened for business on March 1.
The Journal of Commerce reported that Yusen Shenda Air & Sea Service (Shanghai) had previously been completely dependent on three warehouses of local agents for operations at the airport. The YAS subsidiary has now transferred some operations to its own warehouse.
The YAS subsidiary began to handle export cargo at the warehouse and will also begin to handle import cargo there in mid-April, YAS said.
YAS said that the opening is in line with the company’s three-year business management plan, dubbed ‘YAS Five-Star Project,’ which started in fiscal 2008.
The medium-term plan is aimed at making the Tokyo-based company ‘a total logistics provider with a strong presence in the world’ and makes China, as well as the United States, one of the company’s top priority areas.
