Zijin Mining sued after dam collapse

Two of Zijin Mining Group’s (601899.SH, 2899.HK) subsidiaries are being sued for US$2.94 million for damages following a fatal dam collapse at a tin mine in Xinyi, Guangdong province, state media reported. A tailings dam at a tin mine ran by Xinyi Zijin Mining and Xinyi Baoyuan Mining collapsed during a typhoon on September 21, resulting in 28 dead or missing, Zijin Mining said in a filing to the Shanghai Stock Exchange. The suit was filed by the Xinyi city government although the accident is still under investigation. Zijin had earlier been fined US$1.44 million by the Fujian Provincial Environmental Protection Bureau for causing severe water pollution in July.
