China's four largest zinc producers have agreed to cut their exports by up to 15 per cent from last year's 350,000 tonnes, China Daily said. The four firms, Huludao Zinc, Zhuzhou Smelter, Zhongjin Lingnan Non-ferrous Metals Group and Baiyin Non-ferrous Metals, made the agreement at a meeting in Zhuzhou, Hunan province, in July. The four firms, which in 2001accounted for about 48 per cent of China's total zinc production of 2.08m tonnes, also agreed to cut production by up to 210,000 tonnes in order to support prices and to reduce sales to the domestic market by 5-10 per cent.
China's zinc industry lost about US$550m in sales revenue in 2001 when world zinc prices hit a 15-year low of US$733 a tonne, China Nonferrous Metals News said.
