Chinese Premier Li Qiang will travel to Seoul to attend a summit with the leaders of Japan and South Korea, in the first trilateral talks among the Asian neighbors since 2019, according to China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, reports Caixin. Li will join Fumio Kishida, the Japanese Prime Minister, and Yoon Suk Yeol, South Korea’s President, for the ninth Trilateral Summit Meeting from May 26 to 27. Li will also attend a business summit and other important events, said the ministry.
With complex changes unfolding in the region, China expects the summit to inject new impetus into the trilateral cooperation and explore ways that are mutually beneficial to the three countries, said Wang Wenbin, a ministry spokesperson.
China is ready to work with Japan and South Korea on deepening trade, sci-tech and cultural cooperation to advance regional economic integration in East Asia, said Wang.
