The Japanese auto retailing company Yellow Hat has established an office in Shanghai and plans to set up a wholly owned store in the city by the autumn of next year. It intends to open five stores in China by 2004 and thereafter will look to expand on a franchise basis.
China has many tyre and battery outlets but few comprehensive auto parts retailers like Yellow Hat. The company plans to source 70 per cent of its products from China, with the remainder imported from Japan.
