German chemical and health care giant Bayer began work on two new production facilities in Shanghai with an investment totaling about US$200 million. The two plants in the Shanghai Chemical Industry Park will produce the coating raw material hexamethylene diisocyanate and the polyurethane raw material diphenylmethane diisocyanate, with both due to come on stream by 2006. The plants are part of a planned US$3.1 billion investment in what Bayer calls its Integrated Production Site in the chemical park.
