China’s Ministry of Public Security accused UK pharma giant GlaxoSmithKline’s (GSK.NYSE, GSK.LON) personnel on Thursday of tax fraud and bribing doctors, hospitals and others to prescribe medicine, as well as taking bribes of their own, The Wall Street Journal reported. The ministry claims to have found evidence that GSK sales staff in China bribed hospital and medical personnel, government officials and foundations by using travel agencies to make bribes and falsifying tax invoices. Chinese police gathered evidence from cities including Shanghai, Changsha and Zhengzhou before detaining an unknown number of GSK employees last week on suspicion of economic crimes.
