BHP banking on China

Australian mining giant BHP Billiton saw turnover increase 50 percent in the third quarter on the back of a building and investment boom in China.

The surge followed a 120 percent increase in the company's turnover in the first half of the year.

BHP recorded sales in China of US$450 million in the third quarter and US$1.2 billion in the year to June. China business made 9.3 percent of the company's turnover in the third quarter, up from 7 percent in the first half.
