China’s railway industry was set to make a profit last year of several hundred million yuan, reported China Daily. The minister of railways Fu Zhihuan attributed the profit to a 7 per cent increase in cargo transport, while total passenger traffic remained the same at 1.2bn – an average of one journey for every person in the country.
China spent Yn51bn on railway construction last year, laying 1,350km of new line.
