Carmakers look to exports

Newspapers, including the Financial Times and Hong Kong's South China Morning Post, reported foreign China-based carmakers wrestling with the question of using their excess capacity during the mainland market lull to fill export orders. The hitch appears to be China's underdeveloped components industry, but, as a Ford executive, speaking to The Post, explained, "It's only a matter of time before all components will be produced in China." He put "time" at about five years.
