Qinghai pipeline completed

A 930km gas pipeline, the longest in China, has been completed, said Xinhua. The line starts at the Sebei gas field in Qinghai’s Qaidam Basin, runs through to the provincial capital Xining and terminates at Lanzhou in neighbouring Gansu province. The Yn2.25bn pipeline is designed to transmit 2bn cubic metres of gas annually.

Shanghai joins container top five

Shanghai has replaced Rotterdam to become the world’s fifth biggest container port, according to the publication Containerisation International. It languished in 20th place as recently as 1995. The port expected to handle 6.3m teu in 2001. All of the world’s top five container ports are now Asian: Hong Kong, Singapore, Pusan, Kaohsiung and Shanghai.
