The chairman of Taiwan's Chi Mei Optoelectronics said in an interview with Economic Daily News that the company may consider moving its China chemical plant to Vietnam or elsewhere if it is not welcome on the mainland. Hsu Wen-long, Chi Mei chairman and senior advisor to Taiwan President Chen Shui-bian, made the comments after being blasted in mainland media for allegedly using profits from Chi Mei's China operations to fund Taiwan independence activities. Hsu warned that while Beijing's singling out of Chi Mei may have negative effects on the company, it may also discourage future investment on the mainland by Taiwanese companies.
